Freshwater Otter Cam

Explore the fun and fascinating world of otters—from sea otters to their freshwater cousins—in the Wild About Otters exhibit. You'll meet 10 feisty freshwater otters and discover the lush world of tropical freshwater fishes, reptiles and plants they live in.

Watch our freshwater otter cam to get a glimpse of the African spotted-necked ottersOnline Field Guide on exhibit. The cam provides two different views of the exhibit so you might see these inquisitive animals playing or sleeping on the log pile, or eating a fish in the feeding area.

Help Sea Otters

Freshwater otters and sea otters need clean water and healthy habitats to survive - and so do we! The choices you make every day can keep the planet healthy for all living things.
  • Use environmentally safe home and garden products.
  • Recycle motor oil and drive less.
  • Join our Ocean Action Team and help us protect the waters where sea otters live.
  • Don't flush kitty litter and cat feces down the toilet. (Cat feces is one source of Toxoplasma Gondii, a parasite that survives sewage treatment and ends up in the ocean where it can kill sea otters.)
While we don't study freshwater otters in the wild, we work hard to protect threatened sea otters. Visit our Sea Otter Research and Conservation section to learn more about what you can do to make a difference.

Wild About Otters Activities

Enrich or extend a family or school field trip visit with our Wild About Otters learning activities. Many of the "at the aquarium" activities can be done online using the content of our web site and live web cams.
